The film is set in 1980s Texas and tracks three intertwined storylines involving hitman Anton Chigurh, Sheriff Ed Tom Bell, and hunter Llewelen Moss. It begins with Bell’s soliloquy lamenting the passing of time and how things have become more violent than in his father’s day. The scene shifts to Chigurh, who has lately been arrested in a small town. Bell and Wendell arrive at the location of the drug deal from which Moss stole the money, where they discover the burned-out car of the motorist slain by Chigurh, as well as Moss’ truck. Chigurh, who was hired to recover the money, appears at Moss’ house and uses his bolt pistol to blow the lock out of the door.
