Alice and Jack Chambers reside in the idyllic company town of Victory, California, which was popular in the late 1950s and early 1960s at an unspecified period. The women are discouraged from finding out about their husbands’ jobs or leaving the safety of town while the men commute daily to Victory Headquarters in the nearby desert. Margaret, a friend of Alice’s who took her boy into the desert and then claimed Victory had taken him away as punishment, has become an outcast as a result.
