King Aurvandill, his wife, Queen Gudrn, and his son, Prince Amleth, reunite on the island of Hrafnsey in AD 895. The father and son take part in a ceremony presided over by Aurvandill’s jester, Heimir, in order to prepare Amleth for his future ascension. Amleth makes a promise to get revenge on his father if Aurvandill is ever killed rather than live in disgrace after Heimir warns him that his destiny is predetermined and cannot be changed. The following morning, Amleth’s idiotic uncle Fjölnir executes Aurvandill by hand, seizes control of the hillfort, and abducts Gudrn. Amleth escapes Fjölnir’s killers by a whisker and takes to the water in a rage-filled rage. After some time, an adult Amleth joins a group of Vikings as a berserker. Amleth comes into a Seeress at the temple of Svetovit after destroying a village in Gararki (Gardariki). The Seeress commands Amleth to keep his vow of vengeance and informs him that his fate is linked to a Maiden-King. Amleth soon finds out that “Fjölnir the Brotherless” is now an Icelandic sheep farmer after losing his kingdom to Harald of Norway. Amleth sneaks aboard a ship carrying slaves to Iceland while posing as a slave. He meets Olga, an imprisoned Slavic woman who professes to be a sorcerer. They are brought to Fjölnir’s farm, where Amleth discovers that his mother has wed Fjölnir and given birth to a boy they both call Gunnar.

Amleth is attacked by Gudrn and Gunnar while looking for Fjölnir and kills them out of self-defense after suffering serious injuries. Naked, Amleth and Fjölnir fight viciously until Fjölnir is beheaded and Amleth is mortally stabbed at the same time.
