Buttercup, one of the world’s most beautiful ladies, is at the center of the plot. As she watches them watch Westley, she falls in love with him. After that experience, he decides to go to America to seek his wealth. Rugen reports him dead soon after (the Dread Pirate Roberts).
Humperdinck’s wedding to Buttercup is the subject of the next three chapters. Our hero loves to hunt, is adept at it, and spends much of his time in a dangerous animal sanctuary that he founded. In order to save his position as king, Humperdinck must marry soon or risk losing it. Beatrice (the princess of Guilder) is Princess Buttercup’s cousin. He asks for her hand in marriage, but she refuses.
