The ‘lucky housewives,’ a premium soap with a totally current approach, take a darkly comedic look at the suburbs where housewives’ inner lives are not always what they appear.
The story began with Mary Alice Young (Brenda Strong) in the most beautiful suburbs and left her gorgeous home. Now, with comments of her lofty POV, she brings us to the life of her family, friends, and neighbors.
Her circle of girlfriends on Wisteria Lane includes Susan Mayer (Teri Hatcher), who has finally married the love of her life, but now is faced with the difficulties of a mixed family; Lynette Scavo (Felicity Scavo), who is struggling with work, health, and issues in the family; Bree Van De Kamp (Marcia Cross).
There are men: Mike Delfino (James Denton), a plumber who recently tied the knot to her long-time love, Susan; Lynette’s adorable husband, Tom (Doug Savant) still standing beside his wife despite a lot of challenges; Carlos (Ricardo Antonio Chavira) from former Gabrielle, who still loves his former wife; and Orson Hodge (Kyle MacLachlan), Bree’s husband, who supports Bree in maintaining its long-term love. Which Desperate Housewife character are you?
It was November on the Wisteria Lane when a light plane slid directly into the festivities and crashed on the pavement. Onboard the aircraft the passengers were random Jeff and Daphne Bicks, who had argued during the fierce trip. Lynette and Gabrielle and the former husband of Bree and Orson and Susan and the divorce lawyer of Bree were all advocating for Karl. They were also pushing for the divorce.
When the plane smashed into it, all of Bree, Orson, and Karl were in Santa’s Workshop. Like local Mona Clarke, together with Jeff and Daphne, Karl ended up dead. Lynette succeeded in saving Celia, the daughter of Gabrielle by pushing her out, but she lost her unborn son. The most significant body count in the whole series was this calamity.
Angie Bolen and her husband Nick and son Danny moved to Wisteria Lane to seek a fresh beginning. Before the birth of Danny, she worked with Patrick Logan, Danny’s father, an eco-terrorist. Years later Patrick discovered where Angie lived and took Danny and her as her household hostages. He asked Angie to prepare the bomb for him, but Angie rushed away from Patrick, who had put the device in the detonator, in a car. He went to detonate it.

In unexplained circumstances, Betty Applewhite landed on Wisteria Lane, but her family’s truth was much harder. In the second part, she kept her intellectually impaired son, Caleb, trapped in the cellar, believing that a young girl had been killed. But Matthew’s other son killed the girl and blamed Caleb for it. After Matthew made Caleb sneak into Danielle’s room, he was poisoned until he disclosed that Matthew was behind him. Betty decided to kill him. So Betty kept Matthew up in the cellar until Danielle released him. Soon Betty realized the truth about the assassination and Matthew was assassinated.
It’s incredible, to me, how an elderly show like Desperate Housewives can transition from one mystery to another without any problems. The 5th finale last night is the ideal example of the soap’s extraordinary capacity to regenerate regularly and carry forth its fascination.
(EW’s own master TV scoop, Michael Ausiello, pontified who could be a few weeks back down the aisle, even if most of the pairings are nullified after watching half of the wedding party – that’s Mike – last night. But Mike’s guesses were spot-on.)
Of course, the way the show ended — Mike had freed ex-wife Susan and cute son MJ from Dave’s mad grips — we should definitely believe that Wisteria Lane’s handsome plumber told Susan once again, in the euphoria of a wave of rescue. I mean, after Mike’s automobile smashes into Dave’s SUV barely hours after he left Katherine alone with his two kids at the airport, the couple had a fairly passionate kiss.
