The Misfits are told in the context of the seventh-class paintbrush falls of Bobby Godspeed, New York. Bobby lives in a department shop with his father and works half-time as a tie seller. Three good friends, Addie, Skeezie, and Joe, are in Bobby’s hand. They name themselves jokingly the Gang of Five.

One day in school, Addie refuses, as she doesn’t believe everyone in the United States feels freedom, justice, and freedom, to stand and recite the League of Association. The elections for student councils come shortly and every pupil has the choice as a member of the Republican or Democratic Party to participate in the campaigns. Addie, an Independent, decides to create her own Freedom Party. Add plans to become the vice president and ask DuShawn, a new student, to become the president. Addie feels that DuShawn will be able to win because he’s popular, intelligent, and African-American.

Which Misfits character are you?

Addie approaches DuShawn in the cafeteria and asks him to serve as a class chairman for her new independent third party. At the Paintbrush Falls Middle School DuShawn is one of just three seventh-grader in African America. DuShawn and his buddies say Addie wants him mostly to run due to his skin color. However, by saying yes, DuShawn surprises everybody.

They were pals forever—Skeezie, Addie, Joe, and Bobby. Together they laugh, enjoy lunch, and meet once a week at the Candy Kitchen to eat ice cream and discuss important problems. Life is not always fair, but they have each other at least—and all they want to do is survive in grades seventh.

This proves to be a challenge more than one would have expected. The Gang of Five is on the way to life, starting with the rejection of Addie to provide the commitment to loyalty and its insistence on founding a new political party to run for student council. They will learn on their route about politics and popularity, love and sorrow, and how to be inappropriate. After years, they get a chance of standing up and being recognized — not because their peers have sought to reduce them to the one-word gags, they are just starting to learn they are true as the whole, nuanced human beings. Also, you will find out which Misfits character are you in this quiz.

About the quiz

James Howe’s Misfits opens with Bobby Goodspeed’s very first shift as an Awkworth & Ames Salesperson. His new boss, Mr. Kellerman, is known behind his back as Killer Man because he’s so mischievous. He is obviously angry that a 12-year-old assistant has been assigned, and he intends to find a cause to punish Bobby. He and his dad need extra income. Bobby does his best to work hard. As he completes the shift, he wonders whether life in adulthood will be easier. He thinks it’s probably going to grow harder. After all, for every adult he knows, life is not easy.

Life is already pretty hard for Bobby in the seventh grade. He was usually most distracted by the final of these names which he got in third grade for eating peanut butter and Marshmallow Fluff sandwiches every day. Bobby believes when children call him Fluff:

Together, Bobby, Skeezie, Addie, and Joe are five gangs – but just four. Her gang’s name is a jest, but they also “think that there is another youngster that needs a gang to be part of.” They are surely not the only misfits in the middle school in Paintbrush Falls. They are the only misfits Addie has as a leader. Addie’s courageous enough to tell her what she cares about and is stubborn enough to stand by, no matter how.
