In the film “All My Life,” the story of a young couple who were planning their wedding when the groom-to-be was diagnosed with terminal cancer is told through the eyes of the characters. In addition, it does not attempt to grapple with existential issues or provide more than a cursory examination of the physical and emotional ramifications of cancer treatment. Despite the fact that it has all the gloss of a Pottery Barn catalogue and all the depth of a “hang in there” greeting card, it will suffice if you are in the mood for a sad story about two very attractive people learning to make the most of the time they have.
Despite the fact that she hated running, Solomon Chau (Glee’s Harry Shum Jr.) and Jennifer Carter (Jessica Rothe) decide to go for a run the next morning after they first met at a sports bar. She wanted to see him again and so she arranged for them to go for a run the next morning. She discovers that he is a novice chef and invites him to prepare a meal for her. “Do you mean right now?” “It’s either now or never.”
And as the two young people quickly fall in love, move in together, stage a flash mob proposal, and begin planning their wedding, with the groom in charge of the catering, the phrase “now or never” becomes something of a motto.

Afterwards, it says, “we’re moving on to considerations related to quality of life.”

In this scene, the most adorable romantic toothbrushing scene since “Bring it On” takes place. When they impulsively agree to live together so that Solomon can quit his job as a janitor and start working as a chef, they appear to be having a good time negotiating a sped-up set of parameters, from closet space to which sofa they will keep. And there’s no better example of the clarity of the couple’s new priorities than Jennifer’s calm response to a stain on her wedding gown. “It was a beautiful day,” Jennifer says.

It’s always enjoyable to watch attractive young people fall in love, and it’s automatically moving to witness them suffer a heartbreak when they do. However, when compared to films such as “After Everything,” “Me Before You,” “Clouds,” and a slew of others all the way up to “Love Story,” the characters and their responses to their challenges are colorless and superficial. A big wedding with a fancy gown and a fountain romp are the extent of their hopes and dreams for the future. They are also realistic. Solomon, who is well-known for his culinary prowess, deserves a more interesting version of his life story than this one.
