“Chinatown” is a district of any non-Asian town, particularly a city or seaport, where the populace is primarily of Chinese descent, according to Oxford Dictionaries.[6] Some Chinatowns, though, might not have much to do with China.[7] Some “Vietnamese” neighborhoods are actually the “second Chinatown” of a city, and some Chinatowns are pan-Asian, which means they could also be considered Little India or Koreatown.[8] Cleveland, Ohio’s Asiatown serves as one illustration. Due to the influx of Asian Americans who are not Chinese but who own companies there, it was originally known as a Chinatown but was later given a new name. The Cleveland Chinese, Taiwanese, Korean, Japanese, Filipino, Indian, Vietnamese, Cambodian, Laotian, Nepalese, and Thai populations are now united by the district.[9]

Chinese ethnoburbs, which are defined as “suburban ethnic clusters of residential and commercial districts in major metropolitan areas[10] with the intended purpose to be “… as isolated from the white population as Hispanics,” can add to the term’s ambiguity.[11] An article in The New York Times further blurs the distinction by classifying distinctly different Chinatowns as “traditional,” including the one in Manhattan, which is located in an urban area; the one in Monterey Park, which is located in a “suburban” area (and is labeled as such); and the one in Austin, Texas, which is essentially a “fabricated” Chinese-themed mall. In comparison, more restrictive definitions of the term only applied to Chinatown in urban settings.[12] But you shouldn’t waste any more time and start this Chinatown quiz.

A “red-light district” is referred to as a “barrio chino” (Spanish for “Chinese quarter”) in some Spanish towns when prostitution or other businesses are concentrated there. The Chinatown in Salamanca and Barri Xinès, which is a section of El Raval, are two examples of this, though there was a tiny Chinese community in Barcelona in the 1930s.Also, you will find out which character are you in this Chinatown quiz.
