By the time Kane took over his trust at the age of 25, the mine’s output and Thatcher’s prudent investing had made him one of the world’s wealthiest men. He took over the New York Inquirer and began a career of yellow journalism, publishing scandalous stories attacking Thatcher’s (and his own) business interests. After the 1929 stock market collapse left him cash-strapped, Kane sold his newspaper empire to Thatcher. Also, you will find out which character are you in this Citizen Kane quiz. Mr. Bernstein, Kane’s personal business boss, is interviewed by Thompson. Bernstein remembers Kane hiring the best journalists available to increase the circulation of the Inquirer. Kane rose to prominence by successfully manipulating public opinion about the Spanish-American War and marrying Emily Norton, the President’s niece.

About the quiz

In a retirement home, Thompson questions Kane’s estranged best friend, Jedediah Leland. Kane’s marriage to Emily allegedly disintegrated over time, and he started an affair with amateur singer Susan Alexander while running for Governor of New York, according to Leland. The affair was found by both his wife and his political opponent, and the public scandal ended his political career. Kane married Susan and forced her into a humiliating operatic career for which she lacked both aptitude and ambition, even constructing a large opera house for her. Kane fired Leland after he started writing a negative review of Susan’s disastrous opera debut, but he finished the negative review and had it printed. Susan protested that she had never wanted to be an opera singer in the first place, but Kane compelled her to finish the season. Also, you must try to play this Citizen Kane quiz. Susan agrees to an interview with Thompson and discusses the fallout from her singing career. Kane eventually allowed her to stop singing after she attempted suicide. She eventually decided to leave Kane after many unhappy years and being hit by him. Raymond, Kane’s butler, claims that after Susan left him, he started violently destroying the contents of her bedroom. When he happened upon a snow globe, he got calm and said “Rosebud”. Thompson comes to the conclusion that he cannot solve the mystery and that Kane’s final words will stay a mystery. Kane’s belongings are cataloged or discarded by the employees at Xanadu. They discover the sled on which the eight-year-old Kane was playing on the day he was abducted from his Colorado house and place it in a furnace with other items. The sled slowly burns behind their backs, and through the flames, the sled’s trade name, “Rosebud,” becomes apparent.
