An authority named Dickless insists they turn off all protective equipment at their headquarters after some initial failures. It’s a mess, and the boys have to deal with the wrath of an ancient god named Gozer. This boss may be too much for the crew to handle.
Parapsychology, or bogus pseudoscience, is the subject of Ghostbusters by Ivan Reitman. Columbia University professors Peter Venkman, Ray Stantz, and Egon Spengler research it in the film. Scientology is just one of the many philosophies and religions that have been developed over the years. As a result, one of America’s premier colleges defunds the grant and acknowledges its absurdity.
Unemployment doesn’t dampen their enthusiasm for ghosts. “Ghostbusters” is their business name, and they outfit themselves with some nuclear proton cannons. “They ain’t afraid” of ghosts and poltergeists.
Ripley is their first customer.

Dana Barrett is the person I’m referring to here. ‘Zul’, the priest of the Temple of the Dog, has taken possession of her refrigerator and is attempting to corrupt her eccentric next-door neighbor Louis. Also, in terms of Ghostbusters’ content, there’s a lot to discuss. After my conversion, I never really thought about the spiritual substance of the picture, so I never took it for anything more than what it was. When it’s made apparent from the beginning that comedy is the film’s principal goal, there’s very little to take seriously about it. Cult references appear in the novel, with one character even calling Christianity an “old myth.”
There is a character who defends his beliefs and provides him some food for thought on the book of Revelation in that scene. “Good over evil” remains the major theme, with little references to Christianity (and of course, sign-wielding end-times enthusiasts permeate the background in a crowd scene later in the movie). Even Aykroyd’s character references the erroneous chapter of Revelation in the film.
It’s easy to not take the content too seriously when it’s told in a comical way. You might want to pass this one over if it didn’t wink at you throughout its entirety.

It destroys Gozer’s avatar, banishing it to its own dimension, and closes the portal as a result. Dana and Louis are rescued from the wreckage by the Ghostbusters, who are welcomed on the street as heroes.
In my opinion, this is one of the best movies of the 1980s. Ghostbusters is always at the top of my list when I think about 80s movies. Furthermore, it has become an instant classic. Has inspired a sequel, videogames, animated TV shows comic books, and music albums. Ghostbusters is a high-concept film that can be summed up in three words: guys seeking ghosts.
When watching this film, keep an eye out for it. From a screenplay viewpoint, it is useful to watch Ghostbusters and read the script at the same time in order to see how the dialogue moved from the script to the screen. But Ghostbusters is a terrific study in character, structure, and comedic writing.
