Being able to recognize real genius while still falling just short of it yourself must be heartbreaking. A man can devote his entire life to becoming a mathematician, but still be powerless to stop a high school dropout janitor from scribbling down the solutions to problems that stump the lecturer. In “Good Will Hunting,” the intelligent, compelling tale of a working-class kid from Boston, the most perplexing issue of all is that genius won’t acknowledge itself. In the movie, Matt Damon plays an MIT janitor who enjoys partying, hanging out in his old neighborhood, and perusing books by downloading entire libraries into his photographic memory. Professor Lambeau, played by Stellan Skarsgard (the husband from “Breaking the Waves”), gives a prize to any student who can answer a challenging problem. The solution is scrawled on a blackboard that is located in the hallway the following morning. Who takes the credit? None of the kids does. A few days later, Lambeau spots Will Hunting (Damon) working at the board and discovers he’s the author—a born math prodigy with the ability to intuitively understand even the trickiest puzzles. Lambeau wishes to assist Will—perhaps by getting him into school or by working with him. But before that can happen, Will and a few of his friends beat up a man while cruising the old area. Will slightly abuses the police as well and is put in prison.
Editor’s Picks
He is a difficult cookie. He finds nothing wrong with living a blue-collar lifestyle, drinking beer with his friends, and working long hours. He finds romance in being a good bricklayer but none in being a professor of mathematics, perhaps because math is not labor to him while bricklaying is. But you shouldn’t waste any more time and start this Good Will Hunting quiz. The plot of “Good Will Hunting” centers on how this young man’s life is on the verge of self-destruction and how four individuals attempt to pull him back. One is Lambeau, who receives Will’s probation and promises to give him support and counseling. One is Lambeau’s former college roommate Sean McGuire (Robin Williams), who is now a community college lecturer and has messed up his own life but is a talented counselor. One is Skylar (Minnie Driver), a Harvard student from the United Kingdom who falls in love with Will and attempts to support him. One of them is Will’s childhood buddy Chuckie (Ben Affleck), who informs him: “You’re sitting on a winning lottery ticket. If you were still here in 20 years, it would be a disgrace to us. It’s true, but Will doesn’t think so. His reluctance to seize the chance at MIT is a combination of class pride (it would mean betraying his friends and the old area) and psychological scars from the past. And the only way McGuire, the counselor, can assist him is by getting past those wounds and sharing some of his own. In a scene where he finally gets the child to repeat, “It’s not my fault,” Robin Williams delivers one of his best performances as McGuire. Perhaps the creators’ own lives served as some of the motivation for “Good Will Hunting”‘s plot. Both Damon and Affleck, who both used their early natural gifts to become successful actors, are Boston natives and childhood friends who also co-wrote the film. It’s tempting to draw comparisons between their real-life experiences and the characters, and it’s also seductive to watch the sequences starring Damon and Driver knowing that they fell in love while filming the picture. It’s simple to overlook a parallel relationship because the Will Hunting character is so prominent: Lambeau and McGuire are also longtime pals who have quarreled over unresolved resentments and insecurities. In a way, the professor heals both of them by bringing the tormented counselor and the troublesome janitor together.

Good Will Hunting Quiz

The movie does an excellent job of simulating how these characters might actually speak. Also, you will find out which character are you in this Good Will Hunting quiz. Gus Van Sant (“Drugstore Cowboy,” “To Die For”), who occasionally appears to have perfect pitch when it comes to dialogue, directed the film. Take a look at the scene where Matt and Skylar argue and say hurtful things to each other to see how he makes it abundantly clear that Matt is pushing Skylar away because he doesn’t feel deserving of her. The movie’s conclusion and, really, the entire plot, are pretty predictable. The key to its success lies not in the payoff but in the individual events. Despite the fact that “Good Will Hunting” is about a genius who has the ability to change and develop if he so chooses, “Rainman” is a movie about an autistic character who cannot and does not change.

About the quiz

It’s true that they both have quick mental arithmetic skills. Will Hunting, however, is not an idiot genius or some kind of endearing curiosity; rather, he is a smart man who is aware of his intelligence but shies away from challenges because he was humiliated excessively as a kid. Also, you must try to play this Good Will Hunting quiz. This character has four pals who care about him and want to help him, but he feels threatened by their assistance because doing so would mean giving up all of his outdated, unhealthy, and dysfunctional defense mechanisms. There are some people, as Louis Armstrong once said, “that, if they don’t know, you can’t tell ’em.” Whether Will belongs to that group is the subject of this film.
