Sam Foley, a recently deceased U.S. senator, needs to be replaced, and Hubert “Happy” Hopper, the governor of an unidentified western state, has to make that decision. While the popular committees prefer a reformer, Henry Hill, Hopper is under pressure from his corrupt political employer, Jim Taylor, to select his hand-picked stooge, Horace Miller. The governor’s offspring want him to choose Jefferson Smith, the Boy Rangers’ commander. Hopper chooses to toss a coin because he can’t decide between Taylor’s stooge and the reformer. He picks Smith when it lands on the edge and next to a newspaper article about one of his accomplishments, reasoning that Smith’s upstanding reputation will win over the public. He will also be simple to influence due to his naivete. Senator Joseph Paine, a friend of Smith’s late father, who is widely respected but privately corrupt, takes the young senator under his wing. A strong affinity forms between Smith and Susan, the senator’s daughter. Smith is fidgeting and fumbling while speaking with Susan at Senator Paine’s house; he is mesmerized by the young socialite. Because of Smith’s innocence and sincerity, the scathing Washington press exploits him and rapidly tarnishes his reputation with absurd front-page photos and headlines calling him a bumpkin.

Paine recommends Smith introduce a bill to keep him occupied. Smith creates a bill to authorize a federal government loan to purchase some land in his home state for a national boys’ camp, to be paid back by children across America, with the assistance of Clarissa Saunders, his secretary who served as Smith’s predecessor’s assistant and had years of experience in Washington and politics. Immediate donations start to flow in. The planned campsite, however, is already a component of a corruption scheme involving the construction of a dam that is part of an appropriations measure that Senator Paine and the Taylor political machine supported. But you shouldn’t waste any more time and start this Mr Smith Goes To Washington quiz. Paine tells Taylor he wants out because he is unwilling to crucify the obedient Smith in order for their graft plan to succeed, but Taylor reminds him that Paine is in power largely due to Taylor’s influence. Smith is then given a piece of advice by Paine to remain quiet. The next day, when Smith testifies in favor of the bill before the Senate, the state apparatus accuses him—via Paine—of attempting to make money off of it by providing false proof that he already owns the property in issue. Paine’s treachery leaves Smith too stunned and incensed to stand his ground, so he flees.

Smith is persuaded to start a filibuster to delay the appropriations measure and demonstrate his innocence on the Senate floor just before the vote to expel him by Saunders, who initially disregarded Smith but has since come to believe in him. He speaks nonstop for about 25 hours as his final opportunity to demonstrate his innocence, reiterating the American ideals of freedom and outlining the real goals behind the dam plan. All of the lawmakers remain skeptical, though. Also, you will find out which character are you in this Mr Smith Goes To Washington quiz. The electorate tries to unite behind him, but the steadfast resistance is too strong, and all efforts are crushed. Due to Taylor’s influence, newspapers and radio stations in Smith’s home state decline to report what the senator has to say and even distort the facts in the senator’s favor. In response to the Boy Rangers’ efforts to disseminate the word in Smith’s favor, Taylor’s henchmen viciously attack the kids.

About the quiz

Though it appears that there is no hope left, the senators start to pay heed as Smith gets close to passing out. Paine still has one more trick up his sleeve: he brings in boxes of telegrams and letters from Smith’s home state that claim to be from regular citizens calling for Smith’s expulsion. Smith, who was nearly destroyed by the news, sees a glimmer of hope in the Senate President’s warm smile. Smith promises to keep going until people start believing him, but then he instantly passes out. After leaving the Senate chamber, Paine makes an effort to shoot himself but is stopped by senators who are watching. Paine is overcome with regret. The reformed Paine then storms back into the Senate chamber, yelling a confession to the entire plot; to Clarissa’s delight, he also demands that he must be expelled from the Senate and affirms Smith’s innocence. The Senate’s president chuckles as he watches the following chaos. Also, you must try to play this Mr Smith Goes To Washington quiz.
