Clark Griswold, a native of the Chicago region, wants to enjoy Christmas with his entire family. In order to find a tree, he takes his wife Ellen, kids Audrey and Rusty, and them out into the countryside. They eventually settle on the biggest tree they can find. They are compelled to uproot the tree after discovering too late that they did not bring any tools to chop it down. The family’s yuppie neighbors, Todd and Margo Chester, unintentionally experience increasingly worsening mayhem as a result of Clark’s holiday plans. Unannounced visitors include Ellen’s niece Catherine, her redneck husband Eddie, and their two younger children, Rocky and Ruby Sue, as well as their pet Rottweiler, Snots.
