The Greek term “v” (prospon) and the Etruscan word “phersu,” both of which had the same meaning, are likely the roots of the Latin word. When it became clear that various people could assume the same role and that legal characteristics such as rights, powers, and responsibilities followed the role, its meaning in the latter Roman era changed to indicate a “character” of a theatrical performance or court of law[citation required]. The same people, like actors, could take on various parts, each with their own legal characteristics, and occasionally even during the same court appearance. Other sources, which also acknowledge that the term’s origin is not entirely clear, speculate that persona may be linked to the Latin verb per-sonare, which literally translates to “sound through,” with an obvious connection to the aforementioned theatrical mask, which frequently featured a small megaphone. For more personality quizzes check this: Amores Perros Quiz.
