Joe is a jazz saxophone player and an irresponsible, impulsive ladies’ man in Prohibition-era Chicago in February 1929; his anxious buddy Jerry is a jazz double bass player. They work in a speakeasy run by “Spats” Colombo, a gangster. The cops raid the joint after being tipped off by informant “Toothpick” Charlie. Joe and Jerry flee, but later watch Spats and his henchmen gun down “Toothpick” and his gang in retaliation (inspired by the real-life Saint Valentine’s Day Massacre[6]). As they escape, Spats and his gang notice them. Joe and Jerry, broke, terrified, and desperate to get out of town, disguise themselves as women called Josephine and Daphne in order to join Sweet Sue and her Society Syncopators, an all-female band on their way to Miami by train. Joe and Jerry make friends with Sugar Kane, the band’s singer and ukulele player, on the train.

Some Like It Hot Quiz

Once in Miami, Joe woos Sugar by disguising himself as billionaire Junior, the heir to Shell Oil, and pretending to be uninterested in her. Osgood Fielding III, a much-married, aging mama’s-boy, doggedly pursues “Daphne,” whose refusals only increase his appetite. On his yacht, New Caledonia, he brings “her” to a champagne dinner. Joe persuades Jerry to keep Osgood occupied on land so that “Junior” can transport Sugar to Osgood’s yacht and claim it as his own. “Junior” informs Sugar on the yacht that psychological trauma has rendered him impotent and frigid, but that he would marry anyone who could heal him. Sugar makes several attempts to excite him, with varying degrees of success. Meanwhile, “Daphne” and Osgood dance the tango (“La Cumparsita”) until the sun comes up. When Joe and Jerry return to the hotel, Jerry reveals that Osgood has proposed marriage to “Daphne,” and that he has accepted, expecting an instant divorce and a large cash settlement if his ruse is discovered. Jerry is persuaded by Joe that he cannot marry Osgood. Also, you will find out which character are you in this Some Like It Hot quiz.

About the quiz

The hotel holds a conference for “Friends of Italian Opera”, which is a significant meeting of the national crime syndicate, presided over by “Little Bonaparte”. Joe and Jerry are identified as the witnesses sought by Spats and his crew. Fearing for their lives, Joe and Jerry understand they must quit the band and leave the hotel. Joe hides his deception from Sugar by telling her over the phone that he, Junior, must marry a lady chosen by his father and relocate to Venezuela for financial reasons. Sugar is upset and devastated. Joe and Jerry hide under a table at the syndicate dinner to avoid Spats’ men. Spats and his men are killed at the banquet in “Little Bonaparte,” and Joe and Jerry are witnesses as they escape through the hotel. Joe, costumed as Josephine, notices Sugar onstage, lamenting a lost love. He rushes onto the platform and kisses her, convincing Sugar that Josephine and Junior are the same individual. At the end of her performance, Sugar bolts from the stage and leaps aboard Osgood’s launch, which is leaving the dock with Joe, Jerry, and Osgood. Joe tells Sugar the truth and tells her she deserves better, but Sugar still wants him because he is the first man who truly cares about her. Meanwhile, Jerry attempts to back out of his pledge to marry Osgood by stating a variety of reasons why “Daphne” and Osgood cannot marry, ranging from a smoking habit to infertility. Osgood, with a wide smile, has responses for all of them. Jerry rips off the wig, returns to his regular voice, and exclaims, “I’m a man!” Osgood, still smiling, responds, “Well, nobody’s perfect,” leaving Jerry speechless.
