There are a lot of little smiles and chuckles and grins in “The Addams Family,” but they don’t add up to much when you look at the whole film. The film is structured like a series of the Charles Addams cartoons that served as inspiration for it, with each individual line or image serving as a stand-alone narrative. The movie kept me mildly entertained, but I was hoping for a lot of laughs, and with the exception of one, I didn’t get any.

The film, which is based on characters created by Addams in his immortal New Yorker cartoons and on the early 1960s television series, looks uncannily similar to the original Addams drawings; the art direction must have been a rip-and-paste job, according to the critics. Ghoulish family members live in a multiturreted Gothic mansion next to its own graveyard on a blasted heath where nothing grows except dead things, and where they have their own graveyard. Every rule of human nature is turned on its head inside the house, as when the mother discovers her daughter chasing after her younger brother with a kitchen knife and firmly takes the knife away from her in order to hand over an ax.

Anjelica Huston portrays Morticia, the mother of the main character, and in makeup, she is a dead ringer for the original character. Her husband, Gomez, is played by Raul Julia, and despite the bizarreness of their characters, there was a certain chemistry between them that I found compelling. They’re having a good time. Many of the most memorable scenes involve the two Addams children, Wednesday (Christina Ricci) and Pugsley (Jimmy Workman), who are handed their lunches in brown bags with something alive inside before heading off to school.
But you shouldn’t waste any more time and start this The Addams Family quiz.

During a school pageant that ends with half of the audience drenched in stage blood, Wednesday and Pugsley are responsible for the movie’s only major laugh. At the very least, I’m hoping it’s stage blood. Other than that, the story revolves around the calculating family attorney (Dan Hedaya), who connives with the son of a client to impersonate Gomez’ long-lost older brother, Fester, to further his own interests. The brother (Christopher Lloyd, who appeared in the “Back to the Future” films) looks out at the world through large black eye sockets, and he is a miserable wretch until he begins to feel like he actually belongs in the Addams family.

The Addams Family Quiz

Lots of ideas for comic invention are germinated in the film, but they are never fully developed into full-fledged comic creations.
Also, you will find out which character are you in this The Addams Family quiz.

Take, for example, Thing, the intelligent, disembodied hand that serves as the family’s companion. When the family is evicted from their home and forced to work in the real world, Thing is hired to deliver Federal Express parcels – but the film squanders the opportunity to be amusing by simply showing Thing in fast motion, racing through the streets. Wasn’t there anything actually amusing they could come up with that involved the difficulties that a disembodied hand would encounter while on the job? I was not a big fan of Tim Burton’s 1988 comedy “Beetlejuice,” but after seeing this film, I realize how much more creatively Burton used his special effects than I had realized. The plots of both films revolve around strange evil creatures inhabiting a difficult haunted house; however, in “The Addams Family,” the special effects appear to have been added solely for the purpose of being seen rather than being utilized in the story.

About the quiz

That leaves us with the individual instances. Yes, a large number of them are amusing. In the months leading up to the release of this film, a large number of brief trailers for it were shown in theaters. You’ve probably seen some of them, such as the one in which the children inquire as to whether the Girl Scout cookies are made by actual Girl Scouts. These lines are amusing on their own, as were the cartoon captions that served as inspiration for some of them. However, they do not construct. As soon as they get a laugh, however, the movie must begin building up to the next one. This is the kind of movie that isn’t nearly as entertaining to watch as it is to hear about. Also, you must try to play this The Addams Family quiz.
