Despite his father’s opposition, young Alfred “Al” Yankovic develops an interest in making musical parodies. Al’s relationship with his parents is strained when his mother covertly buys him an accordion, which his father promptly ruins after Al is discovered at an illegal polka party. Years later, an older Al is still trying to join bands as an accordion player but is continually being turned down. He now lives with his roommates Steve, Jim, and Bermuda. Al is motivated to compose “My Bologna” while preparing a bologna sandwich and listening to “My Sharona” on the radio. When he takes the song to Scotti Brothers Records, the brothers make fun of him but are open to reconsidering if Al gets more experience. He sends the song to a local radio DJ, who instantly plays it on the air.
