Jeffrey “The Dude” Lebowski, a slacker and enthusiastic bowler, is assaulted in his home in early 1990s Los Angeles by two enforcers for porn mogul Jackie Treehorn, who a different Jeffrey Lebowski’s wife owes money to. Before the two realize they have the wrong guy and depart, one of the thugs urinates on the Dude’s rug. The Dude goes to wealthy philanthropist Jeffrey Lebowski (“the big Lebowski”) with his bowling partners, Vietnam survivor Walter Sobchak and fall guy Donny Kerabatsos, to ask for compensation for the rug. Lebowski declines, but the Dude connives to get his aide Brandt to allow him to remove a rug like it from the mansion. He runs into Bunny, Lebowski’s trophy wife, and Uli, a German nihilist who is Bunny’s acquaintance. Soon after, Bunny appears to have been abducted, and Lebowski employs The Dude to transport the one million dollar ransom demanded. On behalf of Lebowski’s daughter Maude, who has a sentimental connection to the replacement rug, another group of thugs ambush the Dude that evening and take it.

The ransom is scheduled to be paid by the captors. Walter devises a plan to retain the money for himself after becoming convinced that Bunny was using the kidnapping as a ruse and replacing it with a bag of his dirty laundry. If the scheme doesn’t work, the kidnappers drive off with Walter’s bag, and he and The Dude head back to the bowling alley, leaving the briefcase of cash in the vehicle. The vehicle is taken while they are bowling. Lebowski approaches The Dude shortly after and gives him an envelope from the kidnappers with what appears to be Bunny’s severed toe inside. Maude begs the Dude for assistance in recouping the funds that her father illegitimately took from the family foundation. But you shouldn’t waste any more time and start this The Big Lebowski quiz. The Dude gets a call from the cops informing him that his car has been located and taken to a storage facility for impound vehicles. He discovers a piece of homework that belongs to a young man by the name of Larry Sellers while going to get the car and realizes that the briefcase is gone. While questioning Larry at his home, Walter and the Dude are unable to elicit any information from him. By smashing a brand-new sports car that Walter thinks the teenager bought with the money he stole to intimidate Larry, Walter draws the notice of the car’s actual owner, who then destroys the Dude’s car in retaliation, thinking it is Walter’s.

The Dude has a vivid dream in which he sees himself and Maude in an elaborate, Busby Berkeley-style musical scene before passing out after consuming a spiked White Russian that Treehorn gave him. When he awakens, the police superintendent threatens him and tells him to avoid Malibu before having him arrested and taken to a nearby police station. The Dude is kicked out of his taxi on the way home after grumbling about the driver’s choice of The Eagles on the in-car radio. About the quiz

When The Dude and Walter approach Lebowski, they discover that Bunny has come back after leaving town secretly. He explains that Bunny’s nihilist buddies had taken advantage of the situation to attempt to blackmail Lebowski, who in turn had attempted to embezzle funds from the family foundation while attributing its disappearance to the blackmailers. Money was never included in the briefcase that was delivered to the Dude. Lebowski is lifted out of his wheelchair by an incensed Walter, who maintains that he is fabricating his paralysis. However, Walter later learns that the paralysis is real. Also, you must try to play this The Big Lebowski quiz. While Walter is battling them off, Donny suffers a heart attack and passes away. When Walter scatters Donny’s ashes from a cliff facing the Pacific Ocean, an updraft causes them to fall back on him and the Dude. The two dish together. The Dude runs into the Stranger, the movie’s narrator, in the alley. He summarizes everything that occurred in the picture, admitting that he “didn’t like seeing Donny go,” but otherwise remaining upbeat, and reveals that Maude is expecting a “little Lebowski on the way.”
