More often than not, directors strive for realism, for worlds that are familiar to us. There are numerous pleasures to be found in “Tim Burton’s the Nightmare Before Christmas,” one of which is the fact that there is not a single recognizable landscape within it. ADVISORY NOTE TO PARENTS This is the kind of movie that older kids will devour; it has the kind of offbeat, subversive energy that makes them believe that wonderful things are about to happen. The movie is rated PG, perhaps because some of the Halloween creatures might be a little frightening for younger children. As an adult who was not particularly alarmed by Santa’s kidnapping (I had a sneaking suspicion that everything would work out in the end), I found the film to be a feast for the eyes and the imagination.
