“Jets” co-founder Ansel Elgort was inspired by William Shakespeare’s Romeo and was portrayed by Richard Beymer in 1961’s “Jersey Boys.” A drugstore worker falls in love with Maria, the Juliet in his life, but he is disillusioned by the civilization that has shaped his worldview. Tony’s sense of reality is distorted by rumor and deception.
“The Fault in Our Stars” and “Baby Driver” are among Elgort’s best-known roles in pop culture. Er appeared in the Divergent movie franchise as Caleb Prior. “The Goldfinch” is Elgort’s most recent project. He also stars in HBO Max’s Tokyo Vice.
Corey Stoll’s Lieutenant Schrank, originally played by Simon Oakland in the 1961 picture. It was inspired by Prince Escalus from Shakespeare’s Romeo & Juliet. Detective Schrank keeps an eye on the Jets-Sharks rivalry.
From a character actor in the early 2000s, Stoll has become a film and television veteran. “Midnight in Paris” director Woody Allen cast him as Ernest Hemingway, and he later played Yellowjacket in the MCU film Ant-Man. He played Buzz Aldrin in First Man and The Many Saints of Newark, the prelude to The Sopranos.

Originally from Puerto Rico, Moreno performed in a number of Hollywood films during the 1950s. She won an Academy Award for her role as Anita in West Side Story. Most notable for her performance in 9 to 5 in the 1980s and as Sister Peter Marie Reimondo in the HBO series Oz, she’s also an accomplished TV actor. Which she resurrected for Netflix’s Carmen Sandiego. Currently, Moreno is starring in the reboot of One Day at a Time TV.

She believes Tony isn’t malicious and that Bernardo’s death was an accident. Invoked by Maria’s declaration that she loves Tony, Anita agrees to sneak out and inform Tony that Maria will meet him at Doc’s, where they can leave the neighborhood. Sadly, this is a very awful concept indeed.
Also, Anita, who was almost raped by the Jets, tells Doc that Maria was slain by Chino in a jealous frenzy.
Then, upon hearing the news, Tony runs out into the night, begging Chino to kill him as well. Maria is not dead after all. Chino shoots him as he runs towards her.
They come just as Tony is dying, nestled in Maria’s arms and singing to each other about the “Somewhere” he had been hoping to reach. As Maria takes up Chino’s revolver, she accuses both sides of the violence that has decimated the cast.

Furthermore, on the West Side of Manhattan in the summer of 1957, Lincoln Square is a dangerous neighborhood. Also, the Jets, a white gang commanded by the Riff, and the Sharks, a Puerto Rican gang lead by Bernardo, are battling for domination of the neighborhood. Lieutenant Schrank and Officer Krupke engage in a brawl between competing gang members not long after the opening scene. Then, as part of his public proclamation, Officer Krupke tells the two gangs to cease all hostilities or risk arrest.
It doesn’t matter. The rivals disregard it and the Jets intend to challenge the Sharks to an all-out brawl at a dance party that night. Ahead of the final battle, Riff begins to round up his Jet allies, including his best friend Tony, co-founder of the Jets.
Tony is a far cry from Riff’s fiery temper. He is gentle and hard-working and has retired from gang involvement. “Something significant is going on,” Tony confides to the Riff, who eventually encourages him to appear.
