In Sixteen Candles Molly Ringwald plays a regular young girl. We meet her first on her 16th birthday, and at the wedding of her sister her family utterly forgot about it. Jake Ryan receives a note stating her affection for him to look for comfort at school buddies. He is the sophisticated elder to the intelligent character of Molly and tries to find more. In his search for further information, he meets a newbie Anthony Micheal Hall who’s in love with Samantha and ready to assist Jake to obtain her. Until the dance that night, nothing truly evolves. After Jake enjoys a dance party, he talks again to the new man who says more and provides a phone number to Samanthas. Jake goes home the next day, Sam is not home, so in the last moments, he meets her and makes her family forget about her birthday.
Today is the 16th birthday of Samantha Baker (Ringwald), therefore it should be different and exceptional. Samantha’s family forgets her birthday, though, and Samantha’s sister is set to get married. The day progresses from bad to worse, because Samantha obsesses with the most popular elderly Jake Ryan (Schoeffling) and has problems avoiding the newly appreciated geek (Hall) who follows them.

Fortunately for her, Mike tires her father-of-law, Caroline (Morris), and has to baby Long Duk Dong (Gedde Watanabe), a Chinese foreign exchange student who has lived with her grandparents. This 1984 picture is one of the best teenage stories of writer and director John Hughes – charming and cheerful, although some of the foreign student’s comedy has no taste.
On the eve of her sister’s wedding, she suffers in silence, as her family forgets her birthday, suburban adolescent Samantha (Molly Ringwald). Worse still, a total idiot (Anthony Hall Michael) continues to propose her sophomoric innuendo while she really longs for a high school-hunk Jake’s love attention (Michael Schoeffling).

Ted excuses Sam who opens up to forget her birthday and her crush on Jake for her family. Ted tells her Jake is astonished and asks what Ted thinks she should do. Sam is shocked. Ted urges her to speak to Jake, despite his true interest in Sam. He gets her underpants to win his bet before leaving. And Bryce and Wease charge a dollar for the other freshman to watch. In the meantime, Sam is trying to get to Jake but is losing her nerve. Jake and Caroline leave the dance and Jake doesn’t like her by leaving Sam pondering.
Caroline and her pals began a crazy party in Jake’s house. Jake, unhappy with Caroline, goes to his room and tries to phone Sam. But Sam does not want his grandparents to scold him for waking them. Jake is angry about the destruction left behind after the party. After knocking a few jocks’ beers can pyramid, he finds Ted cowering beneath his glass coffee table. Then, Ted tells him that Jake has lost interest in Caroline, and Sam is interested in him. He picks up Ted’s undergarments and, in exchange, he lets Ted go to his dad’s Rolls Royce with the inebriated Caroline. In order to convince the geeks further, Ted stops by Bryce and Wease’s house to take a picture of him on the costly car, although Caroline is only showing the top of Ted’s head in the finished picture.
Sam’s dad excuses them for having forgotten the birthday and tells her he doesn’t value Sam’s time if Jake doesn’t recognize what a beautiful person she is. She is lying on Jake’s couch, not knowing he’s thinking about her as well.
