About the quiz

To what extent are The Crown series stories presenting fiction as reality, and to what extent are they presenting actual facts?

There has been much back-and-forth since Netflix recently announced their second season of the popular show, The Queen, which looks at the life and times of Queen Elizabeth II, is just ahead of present-day history and events.

In spite of the praises “The Crown” has received for its attention to detail, it is a work of fiction featuring fictional conversations, and hence should not be trusted as an accurate portrayal of the royal family. Many British critics have advocated for the addition of disclaimers to all the episodes.

Fiction can drift dangerously near to reality as the two photographs demonstrate. Queen Elizabeth II’s scenes from seasons 5 and 6 of The Crown were explained to BBC radio by actress Imelda Staunton, who will be taking over the character of Queen Elizabeth II for those seasons “The difficulty I face today is that I am dealing with the queen that we are more familiar with. Due to Claire Foy portraying the role of the queen, it felt like we were crafting history and now I’m working on a character that people may say, “She doesn’t do that,” or “She’s not like that.” It’s my biggest pet peeve.”
