Goodfellas, a 1990 film based on a true story, was released. In the late 1940s, Rat Liotta’s Henry Hill, an Italian-American living in a New York City neighborhood, makes his debut. A young Henry develops an infatuation with his neighborhood’s criminal underworld. Seeing how they dress and act, Henry thinks gangsters live a good life. Henry, on the other hand, goes against his parents’ wishes and works for a mob. Henry, still a child, begins parking cars for the gangsters and then proceeds to sell stolen cigarettes on the streets.

Editor’s Picks

As a result of Henry’s arrest for selling stolen smokes, his career takes off when he refuses to tell the police anything about the mafia he is a part of. Paul Cicero (Paul Sorvino), the local mob lord, recognizes Henry for his silence. When Tommy DeVito (Joe Pesci) and Jimmy Conway (Robert De Niro) were teenagers, Henry began working with them. As Henry’s criminal career proceeds, he weds a Jewish woman named Karen (played by Lorraine Bracco). The gangster’s career fascinates Karen.

Paul (the mob boss) gets his cut when Henry, Tommy, and Jimmy steal cargo worth millions of dollars from an airplane at a nearby airport (JFK). As before, the gangsters carry on with their lives. Every time Tommy tries to prove his toughness through violence, he becomes the most violent member of the group. Jimmy develops an obsession with hijacking and stealing as a result of this. Although selling drugs is absolutely illegal, Henry develops a cocaine addiction over time and traffics cocaine for profit. Also, you must try to play this Goodfellas quiz.

Scorsese has used popular music as a counterpoint to dramatic moments in his films since “Who’s That Knocking at My Door?” (1967). “GoodFellas” is a perfect example of how he doesn’t just compile a soundtrack of golden oldies, but finds the exact sound to underline every moment.

As in “GoodFellas,” Scorsese has never done a better job of getting into someone’s head than he does at the end of the film, when he follows Henry Hill as he tries to do a cocaine deal, cook dinner for his family, and placate his mistress.

About the quiz

This is the sequence that left the most lasting impression on me. As a narrative piece, it isn’t very straightforward. It’s about the feeling of walls closing in on you, and about the guilt that you’ve earned those walls. The drug trade must be accomplished, but Henry’s life is spinning out of control. Which Goodfellas character are you?

After four years in the large house, Henry is liberated. In defiance of Paulie’s orders, he enlists the services of Jimmy and Tommy behind Paulie’s back to get the drugs. Lufthansa theft in 1978 nets crew roughly $5 million. They are all shot by Jimmy when they start flashing their large cash around. Tommy is deceived into believing that he will become a man and be ordained into the family later. It becomes out that he was killed in retaliation for the death of Billy Batts.

What else is there to say about this? Mafialand is a place where things don’t always go as planned.

Karen flushes narcotics worth $600,000 down the toilet in her home, leaving her family penniless. Then, he turns his back on Henry. He informs the court that both Jimmy and Paulie are dangerous mobsters and joins the Witness Protection Program with Karen and their children.
