Ilsa confronts Rick in the desolate cafe later that night. When confronted with a gun, he refuses to hand over the documents to her. In spite of her inability to shoot, she confesses to still loving him. Then, Rick resolves to aid Laszlo, which makes her think she would stay with him.
A petty charge lands Laszlo behind bars. Richard Renault is persuaded by Rick to free Laszlo by promising to put him up for a far more serious crime: possession of the transit letters.
Rick, on the other hand, double-crosses Renault, forcing him to participate in the escape under the threat of pistol fire. “Maybe not today,” Rick tells Ilsa as she boards the plane for Lisbon with her husband. “You’ll regret it if you remain,” Rick tells her. Probably not tomorrow, but in the near future and for the rest of your life.”
Rick shoots Major Strasser when he tries to intercede.

Informing his soldiers upon their arrival, Renault explains to them that Strasser has been killed and orders them to “gather up the typical suspects”. After that, he proposes that they both leave Casablanca, a decision they both make. “Louis, I think this is the beginning of a fantastic friendship,” Rick tells Renault.
The fact that “Casablanca” is one of the most popular films of all time is no surprise if we empathize deeply with the characters. There are two lovers who sacrifice their love for a better reason. You can imagine winning the affection of Humphrey Bogart or Ingrid Bergman, and then giving it up unselfishly for the greater cause of fighting the Nazis. It’s an alluring thought.
Warner Bros. had released another film. “A-list” photo for sure! (Bogart, Bergman, and Paul Henreid were stars, and no better cast of supporting actors could have been assembled on the Warners lot than Peter Lorre, Sidney Greenstreet, Claude Rains, and Dooley Wilson). “Casablanca’s” success was primarily the consequence of a happy accident.
The screenplay was adapted from a play of no great relevance. Furthermore, the characters were well-established in the writers’ ideas, and they were so similar to the performers’ film personas that it must have been difficult to write speech in the wrong tone. About the quiz
Ilsa and Laszlo go to Louis’s office the next day, where Strasser tells Laszlo that he would never flee Casablanca alive. The pair then heads to the Blue Parrot to visit Signor Ferrari, and they arrive just as Rick is leaving. Ilsa tells Rick that Laszlo is her spouse and has been for years, even when she and Rick were in Paris. Ferrari claims he can acquire a visa for Ilsa, but not for Laszlo. The pair decides to stay together. Ferrari advises they speak with Rick, who he suspects is carrying Ugarte’s stolen letters of passage.
A young Bulgarian woman, Mrs. Brandel, asks Rick if Louis is “trustworthy” that evening. In exchange for sex, Louis offers female migrants exit visas. Rick knows this. As a courtesy to Mrs. Brandel’s new marriage, Rick arranges for her husband to win big at the roulette table so they may buy a visa on their own. Rick says Louis’s word is good. Laszlo asks Rick to speak with him later on in the day. Rick swears he’ll never sell the transit letters. Rick tells Laszlo to ask his wife.
As the Germans approach, Laszlo orders the band to play “La Marseillaise,” the French national anthem and leads the bar patrons in a passionate rendition of the song. Angry at Louis, Strasser tells him to shut down Rick’s. “Louis” tries to shut down the bar on the pretext it’s a gambling den, even though he’d just won a lot of money that night.
