Furthermore, Kurtz throws the decapitated head of Chef into Willard’s lap throughout the night. Then, over the course of several days, Kurtz’s philosophizing occupied his attention.
A caribou is sacrificed by Kurtz’s locals in a split-screen sequence, while Willard emerges from the river to approach Kurtz’s lodgings. Also, Willard slays Kurtz with a blade as the caribou is ritualistically killed. ‘The horror, the horror’ was Kurtz’s final words. They recognize him as their new king and deity when he emerges. Lance is hiding among the Montagnards, so he tosses down his machete and returns to the boat. Furthermore, he turns off the radio and begins to draw away from the shore as the rain begins to fall. Lance joins him in the cockpit.
