To find the fabled Ark of the Covenant, Indiana Jones hooks up with his ex-girlfriend Marion Ravenwood. Indiana Jones braves the jungles of Peru in search of a golden idol. At the mouth of the cave, the superstitious guide turns tail, but Indy and his guide continue into the cave. In order to escape, the team will have to avoid many antique traps, including motion-activated darts and an open pit. In the antechamber, the golden relic is on display.
To avoid disturbing the booby trap, Indy replaces the idol with a bag of sand, but he fails. Indy and his guide must flee for their lives in order to survive. “As it happens, the first man is a traitor and convinces Indiana into giving him the relic. While trying to elude his pursuers, Indy manages to flee and discovers the guide dead with a spear through his heart. The French archaeologist Belloq and a tribe of armed Hovito inhabitants of the Peruvian forest are waiting for him.

As a result, the Ark and Marion are returned to the Nazis, but Indy sneaks aboard as a stowaway in order to avoid detection. An island in the Aegean Sea has a submarine pen, where Indy steals a soldier’s outfit. At first, threatening to destroy the Ark’s contents with a rocket launcher, Belloq instead convinces Indy that he must surrender, giving in to his own profound desire to examine the Ark’s contents as an archaeologist.
During the event, Marion and Indy are forced to watch Belloq open the Ark in front of a throng of soldiers. To Dietrich’s dismay, the Ark turned out to simply contain sand.
When the Nazis emerged from the Ark, Indy advises Marion to keep her eyes closed so she doesn’t see them. “Beautiful!” Belloq yells, but a spirit with the face of a woman floats towards him, and abruptly takes on a wicked countenance. They shriek in horror. Belloq stares back into the Ark, as flames from above it. Bolts of electricity rip through the gathered Nazi troopers, killing all of them. Dietrich’s head crumbles on itself, Toht’s face melts off his skull, and Belloq’s head explodes.
Ark draws in the corpses and seals itself shut before the fire erupts through the clouds and reaches Ark.
