Fans of Star Wars finally got their first look at the new TV miniseries Obi-Wan Kenobi, and there are plenty of juicy spoilers to discuss! The new show, set ten years after the events of Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith, stars Ewan McGregor reprising the titular role. The first two episodes debuted on Disney+ on May 27, 2022, with new episodes airing every Wednesday thereafter. There will be a total of six.

McGregor’s character is living a monotonous life on the planet Tatooine at the start of Obi-Wan Kenobi’s first episode, watching over a young Luke Skywalker (Grant Feely) from afar as Owen Lars (Joel Edgerton) warns him away. Obi-Wan is hiding out because the Galactic Empire is looking for him and the other Jedi.

What are the Inquisitors, and why are they after Obi-Wan?
The Inquisitors are a group of former Jedi who turned to the dark side and trained as assassins to hunt down and exterminate any remaining Jedi left after Order 66, which was issued by the Empire to identify and exterminate all Jedi and Force-sensitive individuals throughout the galaxy.
Obi-Wan, as a well-known and powerful Jedi, is a major target for the Inquisitors, particularly the Third Sister, also known as Reva (Moses Ingram). For the last decade, she has been hunting Obi-Wan alongside the Fifth Brother (Sung Kang) and the Grand Inquisitor (Rupert Friend), but Reva seems to take the failure to capture Obi-Wan the most personally. The new series follows Princess Leia as she grows up on the planet of Alderaan, raised by Queen Breha Organa (played by Simone Kessell, who replaces Rebecca Jackson Mendoza) and Senator Bail Organa (played by Jimmy Smits, who reprises his role from the prequel trilogy). The planet is destroyed by the Death Star on the orders of Grand Moff Wilhuff Tarkin in the original 1997 Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope film (Peter Cushing).
