During their wedding, the two stepsisters are bridesmaids of Aschenputtel, who endeavor to gain their favor back. However, the doves are flying down again and gouge the eyes of both siblings as a punishment they will face throughout their lives.

In several versions, the father perished, but the account of Grimm separates himself and calls Aschenputtel his first wife, not his own child.
