AppleTV+ blockbuster sensation Ted Lasso captured the hearts of fans of all ages locked up at home during the epidemic last year. A Saturday Night Live alum, Jason Sudeikis, plays Ted Lasso, the series’ titular hero, in this endearing sports comedy. An endearing American football coach, Ted, gets a post as European football coach for A.F.C. Richmond, a faltering Premier League team, and is plunged into the deep end. A fully inexperienced American coach is not welcomed into the company with wide arms, which is understandable.
The idea for a Ted Lasso series came to Sudeikis and his then-girlfriend Olivia Wilde (House, Booksmart) during a dinner date. During the meal, Sudeikis ran through a possible backstory for his character and thought of several directions that he could take his fish-out-of-water soccer coach.
In 2015, Sudeikis and TV veteran Bill Lawrence (Spin City, Scrubs) collaborated on the pilot. The project was not completed until 2018 and 2019. According to Collider, the two discussed Ted’s sincerity in an interview last summer.
About the quiz
Was a little apprehensive when I first started watching the series, assuming it would be about football. Ted, the protagonist of the game, had no idea what was going on. Immediately, I felt a connection with Ted Lasso since we were both on the same boat and had no knowledge of football. But he and I both began to learn about it. Ted emanated a lovely and cheerful atmosphere from the moment he appeared on the screen. I began to crave his company. He asked everyone in the club for their names as if he knew them personally. Ted’s curiosity in trying to get to know Nathan Shelley, the team’s equipment guy, was overpowering.
Such a sense of groundedness blew me away. As an example, I’ll point out my favorite season of the entire first season.
In a club, Ted and Rebecca meet Rebecca’s husband, Rupert, to talk about the future of the AFC Richmond franchise. Ted interrupts Rupert, who is playing darts with his new lover, as he tries to seize control of Rebecca. In response, Ted challenges Rupert to not complicate Rebecca’s life in the event that he wins. Rupert is of the same opinion. Ted not only defeats Rupert in this episode, but he also offers one of the most heartwarming moments in the entire series.
